11 Reasons Why Handheld Devices Should Be Banned For Children Under The Age Of 12

11 Reasons Why Handheld Devices Should Be Banned For Children Under The Age Of 12
healthycures.org, 31 January 2016

It is common nowadays to see kids playing with handheld devices like cell phones and tablets. But scientists warn that children below 12 should not be allowed to use these gadgets.

There is no denying about the way technology has helped and changed our lives. But most of us don’t know how these gadgets are affecting our kids. You should limit how much your child uses or handles a cell phone or tablet because these devices can interfere with his/her development.

According to research, technology has been causing harm to our kids. Despite knowing this many parents continue to allow their kids to use these devices without any restrictions. Such gadgets have allowed infants, toddlers and kids access and enter the viral world where there is absence of the key factors required for development, learning and behavior.

Gwyneth Paltrow warns of dangers of 'toxic' mobile phones and drinking tap water in latest Goop post... but experts say she is scaremongering
by Bianca London for Mailonline, 29 January 2016

- This week, the 43-year-old A-lister has shared some invaluable advice
- She writes about brain cancer and 'electro-sensitivity'
- Also makes a case for being cautious about drinking tap water

Whether she's claiming that water has feelings or sharing her favourite healthy recipes, Gwyneth Paltrow uses her weekly Goop blog to share her innermost thoughts and prized tips for a better life.

This week, the 43-year-old A-lister has shared some invaluable advice with her readers on the dangers of mobile phones and tap water.

Writing on her blog, the mother-of-two has shared a post entitled: 'Are Cell Phones and WiFi Signals Toxic?', in which she says it's almost impossible to remember a time without smartphones.

She then goes on to claim that this makes it equally easy to forget that the technology is still relatively new, with safety requirements that, for the most part, are generally untested.

She writes: 'The scientific community’s rumblings about brain cancer and the new-to-us affliction “electro-sensitivity” are worth exploring, at the very least, so we tapped three experts in the field.'

Devra Davis on WiFi in Schools and Limiting Its Risks

Devra Davis on WiFi in Schools and Limiting Its Risks

Devra Davis is an epidemiologist and founder of the Environmental Health Trust, a non-profit public health organization working to keep WiFi out of schools and to educate parents about how to protect their children from its risks. For two other opinions on the same subject, look here: Are Cell Phones and WiFi Signals Toxic? .

A Q&A with Devra Davis

What’s the difference between WiFi and the radiation from a regular cell phone signal? Are they equally dangerous?

Cell phones and other wireless devices like Wi-Fi routers are two-way microwave radios that operate in the same frequency range as microwave ovens, but at a much lower power. All wireless signals—whether from cell phones, tablets, computers, or wireless routers—are microwave radiation, a type of non-ionizing radiation that is also called radio-frequency radiation. When the World Health Organization reviewed the research in 2011, they grouped all of these radiofrequency signals as a Class 2 B Carcinogen.

Reliable Disease Biomarkers Characterizing and Identifying Electrohypersensitivity and Multiple Chemical Sensitivity as Two Etiopathogenic Aspects of a Unique Pathological Disorder

The full text of this study is now available online :

"Our data strongly suggest that EHS and MCS can be objectively characterized and routinely diagnosed by commercially available simple tests. Both disorders appear to involve inflammation-related hyper-histaminemia, oxidative stress, autoimmune response, capsulothalamic hypoperfusion and BBB opening, and a deficit in melatonin metabolic availability; suggesting a risk of chronic neurodegenerative disease. Finally the common co-occurrence of EHS and MCS strongly suggests a common pathological mechanism."

Vienna Medical Association Cautions for Mobiles Phones - Advises that Reduce Health Risks

Vienna Medical Association cautions for Mobiles - advises that reduce health risks
Swedish Radiation Protection Foundation, 28 January 2016
(Google translation from Swedish.)

Vienna Medical Association has issued new guidelines to reduce health risks associated with mobile phone use. Association's recommendations are largely identical with the advice Radiation Protection Foundation leaves for several years.

Collapse mobile use

Fixed telephone should be used for longer phone calls at home and at work while mobile phone should only be used for urgent and short calls. The number of apps on the phones should be kept to a minimum because the mobile applications leads to higher continuous background radiation from mobiles even when they are not actively used for calls or internet access. The cell phone should also never be stored on, just around the body, for example in a trouser pocket.

Possibly carcinogenic

Electrohypersensitivity: What You Need to Know about the Allergy of the 21st Century

Electrohypersensitivity: What you need to know about the allergy of the 21st century
home-biology.com (Greek website)

In the past it has been called "yuppie flu" and "microwave disease". Its symptoms include unexplained allergies, whistling in the ears, tachycardia and cardiac arrhythmias, fatigue, numbness of the head, constant headaches, etc. Are you also affected by the growing electromagnetic pollution from cell phone masts, Wi-Fi networks, cordless phones etc?

Scientists today are linking the increase of electromagnetic pollution with many unexplained symptoms that afflict more and more every day:

Electromagnetic fields (EMFs) can harm or heal depending on their frequency, power and length of exposure, say Russian doctors who use them daily in their hospitals since the 1970s. An Ontario woman who suffered for years before discovering a bioresonance therapist in Montreal testifies to this.

Hypersensitive to the environment, Linda Nolan was seriously ill for more than two decades. A professional interior designer since 1975, the Ottawa resident suffered from Lyme disease, a severe inflammatory infection caused by bacteria transmitted by certain ticks that can carry more than one disease (referred to as co-infections). This disease seriously compromises the immune system, a condition which opens the door to many other infections. Linda constantly experienced severe joint and muscle pain and heart palpitations and had difficulty walking or even going about her daily activities. She had to adopt a strict Paleolithic diet (rich in protein and low in carbohydrates) and followed a host of other treatments, especially prescribed and administered by Dr Jennifer Armstrong, an Ottawa-based environmental physician. ‘’Dr. Armstrong is a lifeline for lyme patients and was very helpful, especially with accessing the right labs to diagnose the infections. Blood tests were even sent to the Mayo Clinic and Infectolab in Germany. My problem was that I could not tolerate the antibiotics required to fight my infections. I would take one antibiotic to beat down the lyme and another infection would try to take over. », she says.

Open Letter to the Chief Executive of the British National Health Service (NHS) on NHS Wearables

NHS Wearables Comment to the British National Health Service (NHS)

This is a model letter for any one wishing to draw the attention of health professionals to the risks of using wireless technologies in health care.

[Background:  The NHS Five Year Forward View, published in October 2014, set out the intention to develop a small number of ‘test beds’. These sites will evaluate the real world impact of new technologies offering both better care and better value for taxpayers, testing them together with innovations in how NHS services are delivered.]

Open letter to Mr Simon Stevens, NHS England Chief Executive from Dave Ashton
24 January 2016

Dear Mr Stevens,

"Nor shall any man's entreaty prevail upon me to administer poison to anyone; neither will I counsel any man to do so".

I write concerning your "NHS Innovation Test Beds" initiative, to launch remote monitoring systems via "smart" devices across England.

The article on your website notes that patients with diabetes, mental illness, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, respiratory disease, hypertension, the frail and the elderly, and patients with other chronic conditions, all stand to benefit through the introduction of the wireless monitoring of their health.

However, there is a major problem.

The Frightening Science and Politics of Cell Phone Safety. Electromagnetic Waves and the Health Impacts of Wireless Devices

"A growing body of independent science shows that the issue of cell phone safety may have massive consequences on the health of our nation, especially our children. If we are to enact measures to protect against this dangerous radiation we must demand full accountability from the CDC and FCC. It is time that Americans stand up to the anti-science corporate profiteers running the show and rein in this invisible danger in our midst."

The Progressive Radio Network 21 January 2016

In an article published in the New York Times last week entitled “At C.D.C., a Debate Behind Recommendations on Cellphone Risk”, author Danny Hakim discusses the controversy surrounding the potential health risks of using cell phones.

Hakim writes that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) issued guidelines recommending “caution in cellphone use”, due to the potentially harmful effects of radiation emitted by the wireless devices on human health. Included in the guidelines was information about reducing exposure among children. Just a few weeks after the CDC’s publication, and amid rising concerns about cell phone safety, the CDC rescinded the advisory completely.

Today, the CDC website takes an ambiguous stance on the issue, stating:

Can using a cell phone cause cancer?

There is no scientific evidence that provides a definite answer to that question. Some organizations recommend caution in cell phone use. More research is needed before we know if using cell phones causes health effects.

Electromagnetic Fields and Risk of Alzheimer’s Disease (2012 Article)

"Perhaps because influences like electromagnetic radiation and toxic chemicals in the environment cannot be seen or perceived, there was always certain reluctance by mainstream medicine to recognize potential health risks associated with these factors."

Electromagnetic Fields and Risk of Alzheimer’s Disease
18 November 2012

[Also refer to the clinical research of Prof. Dominique Belpomme, for example, his interview with Radio Canada in June 2014.]

“There is a strong evidence that EMFs and radio/microwave frequencies are associated with accelerated aging (enhanced cell death and cancer) and moods, depression, suicide, anger, rage and violence, primarily through alteration of cellular calcium ions and the melatonin/serotonin balance.”

~Dr. Neil Cherry of Lincoln University, New Zealand

In the Modern World, when each household in the developed countries possesses multiple electronic devices, like cellular phones, personal computers, and other numerous electronic gadgets, the general public seems to be concerned about the potential health risks of long-term electromagnetic radiation exposure on the human health and well-being.

In 1995, for the first time, the public attention was drawn to the possible link between electromagnetic radiation and risks of Alzheimer's disease development, following a landmark publication in the American Journal of Epidemiology by researchers from the University of Southern California School of Medicine. After thorough investigation, the researchers confirmed a direct substantial causal relationship between occupations, exposing individuals to higher levels of electromagnetic radiation, and the risk of developing Alzheimer's disease.

Flu vaccine barely working this year, CDC says
by Maggie Fox, NBC News, 15 January 2016

The flu vaccine is barely protecting people this year – reducing the risk of serious disease by just 23 percent, federal health officials said Thursday.

It’s not the worst year ever for the flu vaccine – there have been years when the flu vaccine was only 10 percent effective. But it’s not good news for people trying to avoid the flu.

Nonetheless, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says people should still get a flu vaccine, because it does work well against strains of flu that may not be circulating just now, but that may show up at any time.

“Right now, the effectiveness is not as good as we normally see with influenza. We want people to know that so they know to call their doctor for antivirals if they are sick,” says CDC’s Dr. Joe Bresee.

The CDC had been warning the vaccine might not work well this year. Just after drug makers started cooking up batches of flu vaccine for the 2014-2015 season, a sneaky strain of H3N2 started circulating that’s different from the strain the vaccine protects against. Flu vaccines take months to make and it was too late to change the formula for this year.

Massachusetts: Wi-Fi Lawsuit Against Southboro's Fay School Is Headed to Trial

Wi-Fi lawsuit against Southboro's Fay School is headed to trial
by Scott O'Connell, Worcester Telegram & Gazette Staff, 18 January 2016

S0UTHBORO - A lawsuit accusing the Fay School of failing to accommodate a student's alleged Wi-Fi sensitivity is headed to trial in August, according to court documents.

The family of “G,” a 12-year-old who attended the Southboro junior boarding school, says the boy suffers from a condition called Electromagnetic Hypersensitivity Syndrome, which makes him feel ill when exposed to wireless Internet signals. They argue in their complaint, which they filed in August, that the Fay School ignored their pleas to find accommodations for G, who was experiencing dizziness, headaches and other symptoms in class because of the school’s Wi-Fi.

After a scheduling conference was held Wednesday in U.S. District Court in Worcester, the case is set to go to trial on Aug. 8 before District Judge Timothy S. Hillman, according to court records. The plaintiffs are seeking $250,000.

[How safe, really, is this technology?]

Wireless monitoring of newborns
CORDIS - Community Research and Development Information Service, European Commission

An Italian SME has developed a wearable monitoring system for babies as they go through the sensitive period of the first two to four hours of life. The technology, whose market potential has been assessed with funding under Horizon 2020, will help prevent critical situations while preserving the important skin-to-skin contact between mother and baby.

ComfTech, a neologism for ‘comfortable technology’, is an Italian SME specialising in the design and production of non-invasive wearable biomedical systems with sensors integrated in clothing. In January 2015 the company was granted EU support under Phase 1 of H2020’s SME Instrument for NEWMOON (Smart Garments in Newborns and Babies Monitoring) — a non-invasive system for continuously monitoring newborns.

The Triumphal Progress of Digitalism: Comments on the Current Situation of Electrosensitive Persons Following the Auction of New Mobile Phone Frequencies in Germany

"The persistent and ever more explicit appeal by international scientists, doctors and countless organizations dealing with the biological effects of the microwave technologies used in mobile phones, seem to make no impression at all on the dedicated community of mobile phone devotees in industry and the government."

Dear Blog readers:  Please feel free to share your experiences and comment on this excellent essay.

The triumphal progress of digitalism
Verein für Elektrosensible und Mobilfunkgeschädigte e.V.
(Association for the electrosensitive and mobile injured), August 2015

Some personal comments from Frank Berner, Deputy Chairman, on the current situation of electrosensitive persons following the auction of new mobile phone frequencies

A few weeks ago, in Germany, the newly released radio-frequencies in the 700 MHz range were auctioned off to the mobile phone operators O², Deutsche Telekom and Telefonica for 5.1 billion (€ 5,100,000,000.00) euros. The very idea of auctioning microwave frequencies highlights the special position of this technology. It is again going to mean major intrusions into people’s lives, such as the penetration of private estates, flats and houses by unsolicited radiation – the exposure of the human being in body mind and soul to radiation. The right to do this was auctioned off with the frequencies by the government, and is backed by a framework of regulations and legal powers against which we, as private citizens, can do nothing. It was approved by parliaments that can have had no clear idea about what they were voting on.

Cancer Warning: Scientist Warns Against Cell Phones In Bra, Back Pocket, Raises Tumor Chances, Infertility, Other Ailments
by Brad Ryder, starpulse.com,
11 January 2016

A noted scientist and women's health advocate has a stern warning about cell phones (smart phones): carrying them in your pocket or bra can cause cancer, tumors, and other debilitating conditions, according to a Sun report.

Dr. Devra Lee Davis, Ph.D., MPH, is the founder and president of Wyoming-based nonprofit, Environmental Health Trust. The organization specializes in providing "basic research and education about environmental health hazards and promote constructive policies locally, nationally and internationally," according to its website.

Davis, a leading voice in oncology and epidemiology, spoke at the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences. There, she reiterated a long-standing warning that studies support her belief that cell phone radiation has a role in some cancer causes and chronic ill-health.
"The pattern of putting cell phones in the bra, and now there's a new device where you can actually have the phone strapped to your head, made me concerned about what we know about exposure to phones."

Scientific imaging shows how children absorb radiation from Smartphones in virtual reality cardboard positions

Teton Village, WY -- (SBWIRE) -- 01/11/2016 -- Environmental Health Trust (EHT) scientists are calling on Google to stop the spread into schools of wireless virtual reality system Global Expeditions Pioneer Program where middle-school children hold a cell phone encased in a cardboard box in front of their eyes to take virtual expeditions to Mars, the moon, and other special places.

"Two-way microwave radiation transceivers, in the form of Smartphones, should not be used directly in front of children's eyes and brains," cautions University of Utah Distinguished Prof. Om Gandhi, who is one of the original developers of testing to evaluate wireless radiation from cellphones and is a Senior Advisor to EHT.

Prof. Gandhi added, "We have never tested microwave radiating devices directly in front of the young developing eye. The absence of proof of harm at this point does not mean that we have evidence of safety."

"We want to know why is Google encouraging young children to employ a technology that has never been tested for their use when Samsung has a similar system that explicitly advises that no child under the age of 13 should be using it," asks Devra Davis, President of EHT, and Visiting Professor of Ondokuz Mayis University Medical School and The Hebrew University Hadassah Medical Center.

Thermography: The Safer, More Effective Alternative to Mammograms

"Breast thermography is the name given to thermography when it is used to screen for signs of breast cancer, as well as for determining the overall health of the breast. Unlike mammograms, breast thermography is 100% safe, and is far more accurate in detecting signs of breast cancer than mammograms are... since 1982 breast thermography has also been approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA)."

Thermography:  The Safer, More Effective Alternative to Mammograms

Part of my mission in helping you to understand all you can and must do to most effectively prevent and treat cancer is emphasizing early detection. Simply put, the earlier cancer is detected, the better the odds are for a full and long-lasting recovery.

Today, I want to talk about one of the most effective ways women can detect breast cancer, as well as other types of cancer, early and safely using thermography. As I mentioned last time, thermography is a safe and effective alternative to mammograms. Today I will explain why this is so and why you absolutely must know about thermography in your fight to protect yourself from cancer.

After returning from Sheffield Doc/Fest where our team was busy pitching our latest projects, watching inspiring documentaries and enjoying the company of great friends and colleagues, we are now getting ready to pitch at the Edinburgh Pitch.

Our project ‘Electric Malady’ by talented artist Marie Liden is one of the projects selected to pitch there this year.

The Edinburgh Pitch is running alongside the Edinburgh International Film Festival (17-28 June). Independent filmmakers and companies developing and raising finance for creative feature documentaries are pitching their projects in front of an international panel on Tuesday 16th June.

ELECTRIC MALADY is a feature documentary and interactive website that explores the illness electrosensitivity. This is an illness where the sufferer becomes hypersensitive to electro-magnetic fields. This is a very personal project to filmmaker Marie Liden as her mother developed a severe version of this illness when Marie was little and because of that she had to grow up more or less without electricity.

Electrohypersensitivity in Switzerland

Everyday life for electrohypersensitive persons is a real

Waves, this treacherous enemy
by Gregory Balmat, lacote.ch, 30 September 2015 (translation from French by the Editor of "Towards Better Health")

Inquiry:  Electrohypersensitivity can make life nearly impossible.  The phenomenon is given far too little recognition in Switzerland.

Migraine headaches, skin burns, joint pains, sharp stinging sensations, this is just a small sample of the physical suffering experienced daily by electrohypersensitive persons when they are exposed to electromagnetic fields or electrosmog.

Ills that are sufficiently painful to completely upset living.  The status of this disorder remains unclear in many countries, including Switzerland.

In August, in France, the disability of a woman was recognized by the Incapacity Dispute Court of Toulouse because of her electrohypersensitivity (EHS).  In evaluating her functional disability at 85%, the French court allowed her to receive an allowance as a handicapped adult, a first in the Hexagone which could set a judicial precedent and also radically transform the status of French electrohypersensitive persons.

Today I conducted one of the most disturbing radio interviews of my life as host of “The Real Deal”, with a British physicist and electronic warfare expert, Barrie Trower.

By the time he had finished his service in the military, Barrie had acquired a great deal of expertise in the microwave field and he extended his research to common electronic systems, including cell phones, iPods, computer games and microwave ovens.

He was appalled to discover that microwave radiation is ubiquitous and extremely hazardous, especially to pregnant women and young children. The risks are so great that the use of WiFi, which is enormously popular, can lead to permanent genetic damage to your children and your children’s children. Here is his personal warning in his own words:

Consumers from California, Colorado, and Wisconsin today filed a nationwide class action lawsuit against Fitbit, Inc. (FIT) alleging that Fitbit’s wrist-based “Charge HR” and “Surge” heart rate monitors do not and cannot consistently record accurate heart rates during the intense physical activity for which Fitbit expressly markets the devices in widespread advertising. The suit contends—and expert testing confirms—that the Heart Rate Monitors consistently mis-record heart rates by a significant margin, particularly during intense exercise. Not only are accurate heart readings important for those engaging in fitness, they can be critical to the health and well-being of people whose medical conditions require them to maintain (or not exceed) a certain heart rate.

The Basics of EMF Emissions

Children using mobile phones before age 20 are found to
have a five-fold elevated risk in malignant brain tumors,
according to a Swedish study by Hardell.
The Basics of EMF Emissions
by Claudia Anrig, DC, dynamicchiropractic.com

Since the industrial revolution began around 1750, we have become more and more reliant on machines. Cars, televisions and coffee makers graduated to computers and cellular devices. With these electronics has come an increase in EMF emissions, and while their perceived danger is open for debate, their existence is not, making it an important topic to understand more about and discuss with your patients.

What Are EMF Emissions?

Depending upon the source, EMF can represent either "electromagnetic fields" or "electrical and magnetic forces"; however, when discussing EMF emissions, the World Health Organization (WHO) relies on the former – electromagnetic fields.1 It's important to note these fields exist everywhere in nature. It is the Earth's magnetic field that causes a compass needle to always point north and helps birds fly south for the winter. However, an EMF can also be man-made, created when an electrical current flows, for example. The greater the current, the stronger the magnetic field.1

The past decade has seen rapid development and adoption of technologies that change the way we live. But which technologies will have a similarly transformative impact on health and care?

The King’s Fund has looked at some examples of innovative technology-enabled care that are already being deployed in the NHS and internationally to transform care. Now, we examine the technologies most likely to change health and care over the next few years.

Some of the technologies we discuss are on the horizon – others are already in our pockets, our local surgeries and hospitals. But none are systematically deployed in our health and care system. Each could represent an opportunity to achieve better outcomes or more efficient care.

Primary brain cancer is defined as a malignant neoplasm that originates in the central nervous system (CNS), which consists of the brain and spinal cord, including the brain stem (NCI, 2015). The American Brain Tumor Association (ABTA) reports that there are over 120 different types of malignant and benign brain tumors, (ABTA, 2014). The type and severity of a brain tumor is defined by the cells from which the tumor originated, as well as by the proliferative potential of the abnormal growth, and only those tumors that are malignant are designated as cancer (NCI, 2015). Primary brain tumors are those that start in the brain and may, in time, migrate elsewhere in the body, while metastatic brain tumors are those that start elsewhere in the body and migrate to the brain or other parts of the CNS.

- Most mishaps are fender benders caused by inattentive drivers

The self-driving car, that cutting-edge creation that’s supposed to lead to a world without accidents, is achieving the exact opposite right now: The vehicles have racked up a crash rate double that of those with human drivers.

The glitch?

They obey the law all the time, as in, without exception. This may sound like the right way to program a robot to drive a car, but good luck trying to merge onto a chaotic, jam-packed highway with traffic flying along well above the speed limit. It tends not to work out well. As the accidents have piled up -- all minor scrape-ups for now -- the arguments among programmers at places like Google Inc. and Carnegie Mellon University are heating up: Should they teach the cars how to commit infractions from time to time to stay out of trouble?
